Lonny - it's a name for "friendship" and "the world in peace".

An American aircraft was attacked in the sky over Froidchapelle on Sunday 7th May 1944 during WWⅡ. Alexandre WERION, a couragous patriot who helped the Resistance, saved the soldiers from the airplane.

Alexandre WERION was taking care of a forest near a pond. He found a soldier trying to stop the flames burning his clothes and face, after he had crashed his airplane. Alexandre was directly understood that the American was one of the member of the FLACK (German Air Defenses) shoot bit earlier, so he helped the american to put out the fire and removed his parachute.

The American's name was Lonnie WHITE, who was a tail gunner on the Martin Marauder B26 no.131845. The crash occurred over 19 kilometers, between the first soldier jumped and the last one arrived on the ground.

Alexandre was already helping the resistance, so he understood that if he did not help soldier now, the Germans are going to catch him soon, then send him to an unknown destination or worse. At that time, people could be caught by them, just because you talked with an enemy side. Even such talk, or being suspected of helping the Resistance, were good reason to send you directly somewhere.

As Alexandre was a patriot, he decided to help him not only in that moment, but also to hide him and send him to a secure destination, where he could join the Resistance, or be helped by them. As they discovered later, the other members of the airplane were mostly caught by the German soldiers. There is the real story of Lonny's camrade.

--- One of his colleague landed in the middle of field near a church, where a communion was being held. He broke his leg in the fall, but unfortunately, nobody could take an action to save him. Everyone knew that if you helped a person from the enemy side, you will be in trouble. Therefore, nobody moved due to their fear, even the forest was just at a few meters away. It was very sad, because there was nothing he could do with his broken leg, so he just took one of his cigarette, and waited to be caught calmly, feeling the Germans were already coming from their camp, which was set in five kilometers.

"Never save enemy side".

However, Alexandre was a deep patriot, so he told to one of the sons, "Don't move". Then he went to save the american soldier.

Basically they were 6 people on board, but only two could escape. All the other ones were caught by the German, and some of them sent to Germany. The only other member who escaped was Marino Hannesson, Engineer Gunner. We also discovered that, Mario also could join the Resistance and met his friend - Lonnie, in there. And both of them carried out various sabotage actions in Resistance until the end of the war.

Later on, Alexandre received a wooded curving airplane, which Lonnie made by hand, while he was staying at the Resistance camp, to say "thank you for saving my life" and welcome Alexandre's new baby who will arrive soon.

Alexandre appreciated the souvenir - the exchange from his heart. Alexandre was so proud of the friendship with Lonnie, and pleased he could survive and liberate because of what he did. So he decided to give name "Lonnie" to his own child who born on the 21st May 1945 to honor him.

However, when Alexandre went to submit a document, the spelling of "Lonnie" seemed looks too strange in the old society, so the priest and employee of the local commune refused to accept the name fully. Instead, it was agreed to change the spelling to "LONNY", which sounds more familiar with the French community in 1945.

"Life is magical."

Tow decades later, Lonny somehow joined the Belgian Airforce during his legal army training for two years. He worked as an Air traffic controller at the Florennes Airbase, until he had to start to work at RTT (Belgacom, then, Proximus now) in Chimay.

As a matter of fact, Lonny was so proud of serving Airforce, and he regretted that he could not continue the work until the end of his life. At that time, the salary in Army was less than in private/public companies so his mother made him to go to RTT, in order to give more money to his parents. All his life, Lonny always chose the welfare of his family before himself.

Lonny continued loving all kind of aircraft throughout his life. (Especially Jet fighter of course 😉. ) He always wanted to be connected to airplanes and often enjoyed a cup of coffee while looking up airplanes and people parachurting at Cerfontaine Aiport, where is just in few minutes from "Chez Lonny".

On the other hand, Lonny enjoyed Cycle Road racing and fishing in the beautiful forest and water area in Les Lacs de l'Eau d'heure.

This is why he bought the classical-Fagne styled traditional stone house which made of limestone and pink marble, from owner brothers of Marble mine in Cerfontaine, and lived from 1970 to 2016.

He was also one of Road racer of ECW when he was young. Later on, David, his only son, also became an elite Road racer (without contract) in his 20s and  continuing road racing in ECW.

Les Lacs de l'Eau d'heure is the biggest forest and water resort in Belgium!

Les Lacs de l'Eau d'heure is one of Belgium's biggest resort areas, surrounded by beautiful forests and lakes. 800,000 people visit each year.

It is the area near the border of France and Luxembourg and has easy access to Germany, the UK and the Netherlands. It is takes about one hour to south on the highway from the Brussels, the capital of Belgium, also Europe. And about only 30 minutes from Charleroi where Brussels South airport is located.

The EU and the federal government of Wallonia are developing the area with huge investments every year> Up to now, they have spent over € 2.6 billion!

Some people may have seen the tower, floating in the lake, in an advertisement video of Volkswagen.

"Tasty local fresh foods."

Since I moved to Wallonia in Belgium, what I feel is very interesting is the historical background of Wallon. As I used to work at a city museum as a curator (Conservateur) in Japan, I noted the historical importance of Wallon and I tried to grasp its importance.

It is the land of a Celtic descendants of "Gaul" from the time of BC 1,500. It is also unique that they strictly keep their traditions of “good old France” since the royal government of France before became republic.

The people of Gaulia do not want to change their lifestyle, because they consider "coexistence with nature" as being inherited from their ancestors. There are various things that convey Wallon's wonderful culture, for an example:

The roots of ancient Europe originating from the Celts may be common and so overlooked by European but it’s very interesting to me.

Our cottage is located in Cerfontaine, only 6 minutes by car from "General Information Office" of Les Lacs de l'Eau d'heure.


Cerfontaine is a lovely small town which has population of 5,600. It is well known as the parade called "Marche St-Lambert à Cerfontaine". It’s held on August 15 every year. Also, the largest "La Grand Arme" led by Napoleon, on the list of the Les marches de "l'Entre-Sambre-et-Meus" which are part of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list.

You can easily find Tourism office, “Carrefour”, a super market, gas station, pharmacies, bank, bakeries in Cerfontaine. It's very convenient for your stay.

Therefore...., if you try to get accommodation in this area, it's about at least 600€ for one week even in a quiet winter season. It is the typical price in this region. Parking fee, Barbecue grill rental fee, etc., will be add to the price.

Basically, he trains every day in this region and goes road racing almost every week during the season. He can recommend roads for cycling,  from family to professional bike teams.

At the same time, I worked as a ground crew for International communication and customer service for 4 years at Japan Airlines. I love travelling and traveled in over 30 countries, I'd be very happy to provide information for your vacation through my experience.

My husband speaks French, English, and little bit of Dutch, and I speak English, Japanese and little bit of French - 4 languages in Total. We can also say ”Guten Morgen” in German too! ( The origins of family WERION, which means courage people living forest, was from Celts, who arrived to this area, when it was Gaule, around B.C. 2!! We are quite international, for sure. 👪)

Unfortunately, I saw some people who very much care about SUPER details or refusing their meal several times at a restaurant in Europe. OK, I respect that. In this case, if you are not satisfied with our way of life. We do not want to make you feel uneasy. The idea of just paying money and the rest is OK is contrary to our principles. I'm really sorry to say you cannot stay here, if you are:

1, people who only wants luxury.

The concept of Chez Lonny is to provide a country life experience in Wallon, aiming for coexistence with nature. For people who wish for a luxurious environment and to be treated as VIPs, or those who seeking excitement like “Disneyland,”, staying with us may turn unfortunate.　

It is also NOT an environment with Quick, Exki and any coffee shop that opens at any time in the neighborhood.

 Chez Lonny is a part of scenery of Cerfontaine, which is to be preserve traditional environment in Wallon. The house is the atmosphere in 1920s and you will see a lot of sheep, cows, horses around Chez Lonny. Even if you don't see crystal chandelier, Tower of Chanpagne, Tiger skin..., please don't be get angry and say "Oh no! It's not my taste!" 😉

However, if you wish to:

2, People who want covered parking place.

There is no parking fee in Chez Lonny, you can park your car around the house, but there is no covered parking place. If you are type of the person who may think:

"Oh my poor luxury car! You get wet in the rain!"

In this case, we recommend you to stay at Landal and Golden Village in a private chalet.

3, Staying with animals and smoking inside.

 The principal reason to open Chez Lonny is to maintain and preserve the house longer. We'd appreciated if you understand that keeping tradition always costs much more than buying a new house and living in a modern way. As such, we apologize but smoking is strictly prohibited inside the house and animals are not allowed. Thank you for your understanding. 😇

1944年5月7日、
第二次世界大戦中、
ベルギー南部フォワシャペル上空、

撃墜されたアメリカ戦闘機から、
パラシュート脱出した兵士を、
地上にいたひとりの男が救いました。

 彼の名はアレクサンドル。
フランスのレジスタンス運動に関わり、
のちにロニーの父親となった人物です。

戦闘機が墜落した時、
森師であるアレクサンドルは、
ちょうど池のそばで
仕事をしていました。
そして一人のアメリカ兵が、
顔と軍服に燃え移った炎を、
消そうとしている姿を見つけ、

 ドイツ空軍がさきほど撃墜した
戦闘機の乗員だと直感しました。

アレクサンドルは炎を消すのを手伝い、
パラシュートをはずしました。

アメリカ兵の名は、
ロニー・ホワイト。

 当時、最前線をゆく戦闘機として
名を馳せた、
マーティン・マラウダーB26、
機体番号131845の後尾銃撃要員です。

 爆撃された機材の破片が周辺に飛び散り、
最初の兵士から、最後の兵士まで、
19キロメートルにもわたる惨事となりました。

 自分が今、助けなければ、
ドイツ軍が彼を捕獲し、

 どこか分からない場所へと連行されて、
最悪の状況が待ち受けていることを
知っていました。

 当時は、敵軍やレジスタンスのメンバーと、
わずかに接触しただけで
「スパイ容疑」がかけられ、

 二度と家族の元へ戻れないことも
頻繁にあったのです。

 しかし、アレクサンドルは
愛国精神の持ち主でした。

 アレクサンドルにとっては、
救出の瞬間だけでなく、
助けた兵士をかくまい、

 レジスタンスへ無事に引き渡すか、
安全な場所へと彼を導くことが使命でした。

 後で分かったことですが、
他の乗員たちのほとんどが、
この時、ドイツ軍の捕虜となっていました。

 ここにロニーの回想を紹介します。

 …チームメンバーだった同僚の一人は、
子どもたちの洗礼式が行われた
教会近くに着陸しました。

 同僚は足を骨折していましたが、
誰も彼を助けに来ませんでした。

みんな、もし敵兵を助けたら、
トラブルに巻き込まれることを
知っていたからです。

 彼をかくまえる森は、
たった数メートル先なのに、
恐怖のため、
誰も彼を助けに行きませんでした。

 それは本当に悲劇で、
骨折した足では動けないと悟った彼は、

 １本の煙草に火をつけ、

 わずか５キロ先のキャンプから迫る
ドイツ軍が自分を捕まえに来るのを、
静かに待つしかなかったのです…。
"敵を助けるな。" 

 ところがアレクサンドルの
愛国精神は深く、

 一緒に居た息子の一人に、
「ここを動くな。」とだけ伝えて、
アメリカ兵を助けに行きます。

 元々戦闘機の乗員は6名でしたが、
救出されたのは、
わずか２名だけでした。

 他の乗組員はみな、
ドイツ軍の捕虜となり、
そのうち数名は
ドイツへと連行されました。

 ロニーの他に助かったのは、
エンジン部銃撃要員だった
マリオ・ハネソンだけです。

 後に、この二人は
レジスタンスと合流したのち、
再び再会し、

 共に終戦まで
レジスタンスの諜報活動を
したことが分かっています。

 のちにアレクサンドルは、
ロニーがレジスタンスの拠点で彫った、
小さな木製の飛行機を受け取りました。

 ロニーはアレクサンドルに、

 「生命を助けてくれて、ありがとう。」

 その気持ちを伝えるために、

 もうじき生まれる
アレクサンドルの赤ちゃんのために、
木のおもちゃを彫ることにしたのです。

 そして、

 アレクサンドルも、
ロニーからの贈り物を
心から喜びました。

 アレクサンドルはお互いの友情を誇り、
自分が助けたことでロニーが生き延び、
自由を手にしたことが嬉しかったのです。

 そしてアレクサンドルは、
友人ロニーを称えるため、
生まれ来る自分の子供に
「ロニー」と名付けることを決めます。

 そして1945年5月21日、
赤ちゃんが誕生しました。

 ところが、アレクサンドルが
出生届を提出に行くと、

 「こんな外人名、受け付けられない！」

 と、教会の神父さんと町役場の職員から
拒否されてしまいます。

 そこで地元の人に受け入れてもらえる
フランス風のつづりに変えて、
ようやく受け入れてもらった名前が
LONNYでした。
"人生はマジカル"

 それから約20年が経ち、
青年となったロニーは
家計を助けるため、
母親の命令で兵役につきました。

 専修学校を卒業したら、
ぼんやりと
オランダ語教師になる夢を
見ていたのですが、

 それをあきらめた代わりに、

 2年間、ベルギー空軍の
フローレンヌ空軍基地で、
航空管制に携わりました。

 ロニーは空軍での仕事を
心から誇りに思っていましたが、

 当時は軍隊での給料よりも
国営や民間の会社の方が
給料が良かったのです。

そこで再度、母親からの命令で
隣町シメイにある
国営電電公社（ベルガコム）で
電気技師として働くことになりました。

実は他にも、ブリュッセル空港で
サベナ・ベルギー航空の管制官をする話や、

 カナダの農場に投資している
ベルガコムの代理で、
大農場の支配人になる話も
あったのですが、

 どれも家族が賛成しませんでした。

 7人兄弟の末っ子だったロニーは、
お気に入りの上の兄弟をえこひいきする
母親の愛を求めて、
最後まで彼女に従いましたが、

渡したお金で母親は
お気に入りの上の兄に
「農場」をプレゼントする有様です。

 ロニーは7人兄弟の中で
一番優秀で、
一番家族への思いやりも深かったのに、

 末っ子というだけで、
生涯、母親も兄弟も
認めてはくれませんでした。

 一方、父親のアレクサンドルとは
幼い頃から固い絆で結ばれていました。

 アレクサンドルは
末っ子のロニーを可愛がり、
彼と二人で野山へ出かけ、
自然の素晴らしさを教えました。

 今でも、私たちの家には、
アレクサンドルから譲り受けた
山の道具や、手製のつる籠が
家宝として飾られています。

 そして、ロニーは
誰より息子に愛されました。

 だから細かいことは
どうでも良いのです。

そしてロニーの
飛行機を愛する気持ちもまた、
生涯変わることがありませんでした。

 もちろん一番のお気に入りは
F16やRafaleなどの前線を行く
戦闘機ですが、

 セルフォンティーヌ空港から
離着陸するプロペラ機や、

 悠々と下降する
観光用パラシュートを見上げながら
コーヒーを楽しむのが楽しみでした。

一方でロニーは、
美しい自然環境に囲まれた森と湖の地域で、
ロードサイクリングや魚釣りを謳歌しました。

私たちの地元Les Lacs de l'Eau d'heure自然公園は、
年間800,000人が訪れる
美しい森と湖に囲まれた
ベルギー有数のリゾート地です。

ベルギーの首都ブリュッセルから
高速道路で南に約1時間、

ブリュッセル南空港のある
シャルルロワから約30分。

フランスやルクセンブルグとの国境に近く、

まず、レ・ラック・ドゥ・ロー・ドー自然公園では、
1,800ヘクタールの自然公園の湖での、
水辺のアクティビティが充実しています。


晴れの日に、キラキラと光る水面を眺めながら
湖の畔を散歩するのは、とても気持ちが良いです。

水辺では、ビーチでのんびりできるほか、

ロードバイク、マウンテンバイク（ＶＴＴ）、
モトクロスの他、

ここが私たちの最寄りポイントです。

”地元産の新鮮グルメ”

日本人である私が
ベルギーのワロン州に移り住んでから、

ワロンの自然の美しさに加え、
非常に興味深いと感じているのが、
ワロンの歴史的背景です。

私は日本で学芸員をしていましたので、
ワロンの歴史的重要性についても、
一応把握しているつもりです。

このアルデンヌ高原は、
ケルトの女神「アルデユイナ」が護る
紀元前からの「ガリア」の子孫が暮らす
正統ケルトの地であり、

同時に、王政時代の
「古き良きフランス」の伝統を守る
ユニークな場所でもあります。

ガリアの人達は、
自分たちの生活スタイルを
頑固なまでに変えたがらないのは、

先祖から受け継いだ
「自然との共存」を第一に考えている
証拠でもあります。

ワロンの素晴らしい文化を
伝えるものは色々ありますが、

醸造所直営のブラッスリー巡りには
特におすすめの場所です。

”古き良きワロンの伝統”

私たちのコテージはLes Lacs de l'Eau d'heure自然公園の
「総合案内所」から、車で6分のCerfontaineにあります。


セルフォンティーヌは人口5,600人の小さな町です。

ユネスコの無形文化財
「アントル・サンブル・エ・ムーズの行進」最大の
ナポレオン率いる「ラ・グランド・アルメ」行軍再現が、
毎年8月15日に行われます。

セルフォンティーヌには
Carrefourというスーパーマーケットや、
ガソリンスタンド、薬局、銀行があり便利です。

ですが、この地域で宿を取ろうと思えば、
冬場の閑散期でも、
一週間で最低600€というのがこの地域の相場です。

もちろん食事代や駐車料金、
バーベキューグリルのレンタル代は
ここから追加で発生します。

私たちのコテージを活用してもらえば、

・バスルーム

そしてほどよい広さの
プライベートのテラスと
心地良い芝生の庭があり、

駐車場や洗濯機、

1970年代のレトロな雰囲気を残す
ワロン伝統のブルーストーンの家ですが、

元々はセルフォンティーヌにある
大理石鉱山のオーナー兄弟が暮らした家です。

家の内部のいたるところに
地元産の大理石が使用されているところが
チャームポイントです。

お金だけ払ってもらえば、
あとはどうでも良いという考え方は、
私たちの主義に反します。

なので、以下の項目に
当てはまるケースは、
本当に申し訳ないのですが、
滞在をお断りせざるを得ません。

１，ラグジュアリーが好きな人

私たちが提供するコンセプトは、
あくまでも、
自然との共存を目指すワロンでの
田舎暮らし体験であり、

ラグジュアリーでなければ
気が済まない人や、

ディズニーランドのような
ドキドキ・ワクワク感を求める人に、
ここでのステイは向きません。

隣近所にQuickやExki、
何時でも開店しているコーヒーショップが
ある環境でもありません。

私たちが提供するのは、
基本的に1970年代の田舎風の家、
周囲の環境はアルデンヌの森です。


たとえ、ふくらはぎまでの厚手タイツと、
青い小花エプロンで決めた
近所のおばちゃん達とすれ違っても、

「私の趣味と違う！」

と、怒り狂うことがないように
くれぐれもお願いします。

ただし、

子どもたちに田舎暮らしを体験させたり、

自然との距離が近い、
昔の暮らしを体験するため、

や、

スポーツのためなら何でも修行！
 という、心意気のある人は、
私たちはいつでも大歓迎です。

※もしかして運が良ければ、

２，ペット連れ・喫煙する人

私たちにも子供が居るので、
小さい赤ちゃんは大歓迎です。
今回、新しく子供用の設備も揃えましたので、
自由に使ってもらって構いません。

ですが、家のメンテナンスと
セキュリティの都合上、

ワンちゃんや猫ちゃんなどの動物連れや、
タバコを吸う人は、
残念ながらお断りしなければなりません。

ただし、私たちも羊や金魚を飼っていますし、
私も小鳥やウサギ、犬を飼った経験があり、
動物は大好きです。

喫煙もテラスに限り、許可します。

義父の家を、長く良い保存状態に保つため、
あなたの温かいご理解をお願いいたします。

３，屋根付き駐車場でなければ嫌な人

私たちのコテージは、
駐車料金が発生しない代わりに、
屋根付き駐車場がありません。

大きな車でも２～３台なら
そのまま家の周囲に駐車してもらって
構いませんが、どうしても、

「雨にぬれたら私の高級車が可哀想！」

というタイプの人には、
他の宿泊施設の利用をおすすめします。

ですので、

それでも良いと言う人は、
このまま読み進めてください。
